Focus Groups

ENVIRONMENT FOCUS GROUP.

The Group have arranged to keep a store of 'hogs' at the Partnership offices. These are used to ensure that less water is used every time the toilet is flushed. If you would like one or more, please come into the office.

The Adopt a Path Group is up and running, with a launch in October 2006. One member of the group has taken on a project to help provide more allotment space in Penistone, and another member is the contact for the Lapwing Watch Project. This runs in conjunction with the RSPB during spring and summer, and counts the number of lapwings nesting in the area. For more information on any of these, please contact the office.

To find out more about the environmental concerns of local people, please follow the link on the website pages to Penistone Environment.

TOURISM FOCUS GROUP

The Tourism Focus Group were instrumental in deciding that Penistone needed a Guidebook, which of course led to the employment of John Hislop, the Tourism & Heritage Officer. He was the writer and editor of the Explorer's Guide to Penistone, launched March 2006. For a copy of the Guidebook, please call in to the Partnership Offices, or order your copy through the enquiry page (P&P £1.50).

The Tourism Focus Group has also been instrumental in the commissioning of a new tourism website for Penistone & District - www.visitpenistone.co.uk. The site features some stunning photographs, and includes useful information for visitors, both local and national. It has been designed by a local website designer, who has brought his enthusiasm and local knowledge to the project. Please have a look at it by following the link on the Websites page, you may well discover something new about the area, even if you have lived here all your life.

A new leaflet, 'Visit Penistone', was published in August. This replaces the 'Welcome to Penistone' leaflet.
YOUTH PROVISIONS GROUP

The Youth Provisions Group has been involved with the promotion of the Surf'n'Snack Shack, which aims to give young people access to the internet, and teach them ICT skills.

FAIRTRADE IN PENISTONE
