Upper Don Project

The Upper Don Project was conceived in 2004 and the Upper Don Steering Group set up, after a successful application for funding from Leader+ and the Environment Agency. The area covered is from the source and its catchment area through to the boundary with Sheffield near Deepcar.

A fencing and tree planting project, located at Crow Edge, along a tributary of the Upper Don, called Sledbrook Dyke, has been completed. This was to stop cattle from causing further deterioration to the banks of the stream, and to encourage the reintroduction of riparian plants and habitat for fauna such as returning otters. Two hundred and fifty trees were planted to further encourage this process. It will take at least a year to see any noticable difference, however the area is now protected from cattle encroachment, and therefore will provide a habitat link for wildlife.
